Softball Recap: Gregory-Portland Extends Winning Streak to Three

Gregory-Portland entered their tilt with Alice on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Coyotes. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 15 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Madison Mauricio was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-6 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Kailani Vargas was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Emily Cameron was another key player, going 1-for-5 with one home run and three RBI.

Gregory-Portland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive contests.

Gregory-Portland's record now sits at 19-9. As for Alice, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-18.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Gregory-Portland will face off against rival Flour Bluff at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Alice is set to challenge their familiar foe King at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
