Football Recap: Fort Morgan Mustangs vs. Thompson Valley Eagles

Fort Morgan had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-6 to make it four. They were beaten by the Thompson Valley Eagles 45-14. The Mustangs were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

Despite the loss, Fort Morgan still got an impressive performance from Ben Fritzler, who picked up 90 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 135 yards. Another player making a difference was Jj Marquez, who threw for 219 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Fort Morgan didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Izeiah Ortiz and Jordan Perez. Perez has been hot recently, having also posted five or more total tackles the last three times he's played.

As for Thompson Valley, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-1. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 7.4 points on average over those games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Thompson Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tristin Hill, who rushed for 171 yards and two scores while picking up 10.7 yards per carry. Those 171 rushing yards gave Hill a new career-high. Karter Christiansen also helped out as he racked up 138 rushing yards.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Fort Morgan is set to challenge their familiar foe Pomona at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Thompson Valley will take on rival Roosevelt at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,006 yards in their previous games.
