Old Forge and Riverside are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Blue Devils will square off against the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Old Forge barely beat Montrose the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Blue Devils put the hurt on the Meteors with a sharp 10-1 victory on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Blue Devils.
Jake Bartnikowski was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Bartnikowski was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jake Iacavazzi was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Will Wozniak also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Riverside entered their tilt with Delaware Valley on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Warriors 14-3.
Like Old Forge, Riverside also got a great game from a two-way player: Cooper Borowski. On the mound, he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Borowski has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Riverside let Jose Sosa and Nicholas Bohenek run wild. Sosa got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Bohenek went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave Sosa a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chris Graff, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Riverside hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive games.
Riverside's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Old Forge, their record is now 13-6.
Old Forge skirted past Riverside 3-2 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
