Basketball Recap: Five Straight Road Wins for Murphysboro

Murphysboro hadn't done well against Herrin recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Murphysboro Red Devils walked away with a 48-40 victory over the Herrin Tigers. This was a revenge game for the Red Devils: when they faced off against the Tigers back in December of 2024, they had to take a 52-45 loss.

Herrin lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Madox Billingsley, who went 5 of 12 en route to 16 points. Billingsley continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Grady Cox was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

Murphysboro's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-4. As for Herrin, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 20-6.

Coming up, Murphysboro will challenge Carbondale at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Murphysboro is facing Carbondale at the right time seeing as Carbondale is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Herrin, they have already played their next game, a 71-43 victory against DuQuoin on the 8th.
