Concord Academy picks up 12th straight win at home

The Concord Academy Eagles can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent match on Tuesday. They really took it to Metrolina Christian Academy for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-25 win at home. Given Concord Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while Metrolina Christian Academy is ranked 325th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Concord Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Janiya Byrd led the charge by scoring 20 points along with five assists and five steals. That's the first time this season that Byrd scored 15 or more points. Justice Alexander was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.

Despite the loss, Metrolina Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: Alaina Griffin scored 16 points along with two steals. That was a full 64% of Metrolina Christian Academy's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Concord Academy's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 35.83 points. As for Metrolina Christian Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Concord Academy will challenge Northside Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Northside Christian Academy will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. Metrolina Christian Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on SouthLake Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
