Basketball Game Preview: D'Evelyn Jaguars vs. Longmont Trojans

The D'Evelyn Jaguars will square off against the Longmont Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. D'Evelyn has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with 13 straight defeats, while Longmont will come in with eight straight victories.

Last Tuesday, D'Evelyn came up short against Colorado Academy and fell 60-49. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 298th, while the Mustangs are ranked 69th).

Meanwhile, Longmont didn't have too much trouble with Standley Lake on Wednesday as they won 59-42.

Longmont's win came from a few key players D'Evelyn will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Gavin Northouse, who went 7 for 10 en route to 17 points. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in assists (three). Joey Foot was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 11 boards.

Longmont was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Standley Lake only racked up ten assists.

D'Evelyn's loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Longmont, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3.

D'Evelyn lost to Longmont on the road by a decisive 61-47 margin in their previous meeting back in December of 2019. Thankfully for D'Evelyn, Eddie Kurjak (who went 7 of 9 on his way to 15 points and five blocks) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
