Soccer Game Preview: Oneonta vs. Cherokee County

The Oneonta Redskins will venture away from home to challenge the Cherokee County Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Oneonta is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.

Oneonta barely beat Etowah the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Oneonta put the hurt on Etowah with a sharp 6-0 victory on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Cherokee County's offense. They lost 10-0 to Donoho two weeks ago. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama soccer rankings (they are ranked 124th, while the Falcons are ranked 23rd).

Cherokee County's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Oneonta, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Everything went Oneonta's way against Cherokee County in their previous meeting back in February of 2020, as Oneonta made off with an 8-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Oneonta since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
