Basketball Recap: Highland Tech Takes a Loss

Highland Tech suffered their closest loss since December 11, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Shelby Golden Lions by a score of 59-57. The Rams have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Highland Tech lost, don't look at Elijah Sherrill. Despite the final result, he went 12 for 23 to rack up 35 points. The contest was Sherrill's 23rd in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Cooper McCraw, who posted ten points.

Shelby's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Omari Whiteside led the charge by putting up 11 points in addition to six assists and three blocks. The dominant performance gave Whiteside a new career-high in blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Grady Morgan, who put up 17 points.

Highland Tech now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Shelby, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.

Highland Tech wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 65-59 defeat against Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy on the 4th. As for Shelby, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 72-53 win against Bessemer City on the 5th.
