Recap: Rockledge Raiders vs. Lincoln Park Academy Greyhounds
If the Rockledge Raiders were riding high off their 53-29 takedown of the Merritt Island Mustangs on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Rockledge was outmatched by Lincoln Park Academy at home and fell 70-36. While losing is never fun, Rockledge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 520th, while Lincoln Park Academy is ranked 68th).
Rockledge's lost on Friday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Makaiya Watkins, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Watkins scored a full 30.6% of Rockledge's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaida Williams-Goins, who scored 10 points along with 4 steals.
Lincoln Park Academy found their leader in underclassman Olivia Titherington, who scored 17 points along with 7 assists and 7 steals. The contest was Titherington's third in a row with at least ten points. Ta'tyannah Thompson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with 5 steals.
Rockledge has yet to win a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 1-5 record. As for Lincoln Park Academy, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
Rockledge will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Viera at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Viera focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Friday. As for Lincoln Park Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Martin County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
