League recap: Independence scores huge upset over Crestwood

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Independence, who defeated 85th ranked Crestwood, 9-0.

Adding to the longest winning streak in 3A District 5 this week, Decorah-North Winneshiek beat Vinton-Shellsburg 35-0. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Vikings.

Crestwood's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Cadets feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Spencer Bohr has thrown for 256 yards and 2 touchdowns this season, while Jeffrey Haskovec has 8 catches for 116 yards.

The Cadets' offense has recorded 138 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Decorah-North Winneshiek has permitted only 21 on the year.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Bill Post's team takes on Crestwood. The Vikings are in first place, while Chris Lentz's team is in fifth place.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Decorah-North Winneshiek takes on the Cadets. The Vikings have allowed 21 points this season, while Crestwood has given up 107. Decorah-North Winneshiek allowed 0 points last week as it topped the Vikings.

The Mustangs were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. Independence defeated the Cadets 9-0 earlier in the week.
