Baseball Recap: Byron Center Takes a Loss

Fans were treated to a battle of the Bulldogs on Friday. Byron Center fell just short of Grandville by a score of 4-3. Byron Center was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Grandville apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Byron Center got a good showing from Connor Devito, who tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Devito has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Luke Laska was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

The loss snapped Byron Center's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-3 record. As for Grandville, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

While Byron Center had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
