Baseball Game Preview: Layton Lancers vs. Mountain Ridge Sentinels

For the second straight game, Layton will face off against Mountain Ridge. The Lancers will square off against the Sentinels at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Layton's hitters haven't had much luck over their past four matchups, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Layton heads in on the heels of a playoff contest on Wednesday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mountain Ridge. Considering the last time the Lancers couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

For Mountain Ridge's part, Colby Claassen looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Claassen has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Ethan Iacono was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Cooper Goff was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Mountain Ridge hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matches.

Layton's loss dropped their record down to 10-15. As for Mountain Ridge, their record now sits at 17-9.
