Softball Recap: Ocosta Takes Down Sunnyside Christian in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Ocosta had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the Sunnyside Christian Knights with a sharp 15-4 win on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won eight matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Jessie Gilbert and Joanah Rosander made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Gilbert struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Rosander tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. At the plate, Gilbert went 1-for-3 with two RBI, while Rosander went 3-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and three doubles. Those three doubles gave Rosander a new career-high.

In other batting news, Noel Cuzdey was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Elly Mirante was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

Ocosta was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .515. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Ocosta is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.8 runs over those games. As for Sunnyside Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season.

As of now, neither Ocosta nor Sunnyside Christian have any future games scheduled.
