After a string of three wins, Wellington's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cheney Cardinals. If the Crusaders were looking for revenge after losing 2-1 to the Cardinals when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Wellington was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the first set very close. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-16.

Their offense was headlined by Lyndi Barton and Vivienne Wright, who picked up eight kills apiece. They got some help from Kirstyn Gregory and her nine assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cheney to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carter Pipkin, who had 17 assists. That's the most assists Pipkin has posted over her last 13 matches. Karli Inslee also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

Wellington's loss dropped their record down to 15-6. As for Cheney, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.

Wellington will challenge Andale at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cheney, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 2-1 victory against Trinity Academy on the 27th.
