Basketball Recap: Wilmer-Hutchins Takes a Loss

On Tuesday, the Wilmer-Hutchins Eagles lost to the Weatherford Kangaroos at home by a 56-39 margin. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 957th, while the Kangaroos are ranked 73rd).

When it comes to explaining why Wilmer-Hutchins lost, don't look at Dezmond Williams. Despite the final result, he posted 18 points and five steals. Those five steals gave Williams a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Camron Buster, who had eight points.

Wilmer-Hutchins dropped their record down to 4-11 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Weatherford, the win was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-1.

Wilmer-Hutchins will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Carter at 4:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Weatherford, they will be playing at home against Crowley at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Crowley's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.
