Softball Recap: Walled Lake Central Takes a Loss

Walled Lake Central dropped their record down to 5-3 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Lakeland Eagles by a score of 5-4. If the Vikings were looking for revenge after losing 14-4 to the Eagles when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Katelynn Cole spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on nine hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Bella Spellman was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Combs, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

As for Lakeland, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since May 29, 2024.

On Lakeland's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Melina Wing gave up three earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Alyssa Goldman was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Emily Searle was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

While Walled Lake Central had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
