Baseball Game Preview: Mendota Trojans vs. Sandwich Indians

The Mendota Trojans will challenge the Sandwich Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Mendota fell victim to Erie-Prophetstown and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Panthers, falling 9-0. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Sandwich owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Monday. They won by a run and slipped past Serena 1-0. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Huskers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

The result came thanks to Arlo Budd's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

Sandwich's victory bumped their record up to 16-14. As for Mendota, their loss dropped their record down to 8-15-1.

Mendota was able to grind out a solid win over Sandwich in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 13-9. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
