Basketball Recap: Washington Falls Despite Big Games from Nasear Bailey and Elijah Thomas

Washington lost against Pocomoke back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Washington Jaguars took an 80-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pocomoke Warriors.

Washington's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Elijah Thomas, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds, and Nasear Bailey, who went 8-for-13 on his way to 20 points. Thomas has been hot, having posted 16 or more points the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jakai Jones, who made all 5 shots he took to post 11 points.

Pocomoke found their leader in sophomore LAMARQUIS DOUGLAS, who dropped a double-double with 27 points and 11 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points DOUGLAS has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of ZYMIERE WALKER, who posted 14 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Washington has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-18 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points over those games. Pocomoke's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-13.

Coming up, Washington will face off against Crisfield at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Pocomoke, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 88-77 loss against Snow Hill on the 21st.
