Basketball Game Preview: Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns vs. La Costa Canyon Mavericks

Rancho Buena Vista is 1-6 against La Costa Canyon since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns will welcome the La Costa Canyon Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Rancho Buena Vista is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against San Joaquin Memorial two weeks ago (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Rancho Buena Vista came up short against San Joaquin Memorial, falling 81-56. The Longhorns were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-24.

Despite the defeat, Rancho Buena Vista had strong showings from CJ Aldrich, who posted 20 points and five rebounds, and Braydon Allen, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 14 points. That was a full 35.7% of Rancho Buena Vista's points, marking the 13th time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Justice, who had four points.

Meanwhile, La Costa Canyon entered their tilt with Steele Canyon on Saturday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Cougars 77-53. The Mavericks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 20 points or more this season.

La Costa Canyon now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Rancho Buena Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 10-7.
