Baseball Game Preview: Champion Golden Flashes vs. Garfield G-Men

The Champion Golden Flashes will square off against the Garfield G-Men at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Champion 3.1, Garfield 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

On Thursday, Champion was able to grind out a solid win over McKinley, taking the game 5-2. The Golden Flashes haven't had any issues with the Red Dragons recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Bradey Quinby spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on eight hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dylan Howell, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Champion: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-9 otherwise. Carter Boggs was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Garfield has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.24 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They fell just short of Lowellville by a score of 13-12. The G-Men's defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Champion's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-9. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Garfield, their loss dropped their record down to 12-9.
