Preview: Los Alamitos Griffins vs. Newport Harbor Sailors
The Los Alamitos Griffins will be playing in front of their home fans against the Newport Harbor Sailors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Los Alamitos knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 24 matches -- so hopefully Newport Harbor likes a good challenge.
Even though Corona del Mar scored an imposing 74 points on Wednesday, Los Alamitos still came out on top. Los Alamitos slipped by Corona del Mar 75-74.
Meanwhile, Newport Harbor had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They managed a 73-68 victory over Laguna Beach. Given Newport Harbor's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 54th, while Laguna Beach is ranked 238th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Los Alamitos pushed their record up to 20-4 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home. As for Newport Harbor, their win bumped their record up to 21-4.
Los Alamitos beat Newport Harbor 74-64 in their previous matchup on January 10th. Does Los Alamitos have another victory up their sleeve, or will Newport Harbor turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
