Baseball Recap: Wayne Takes a Loss

The Wayne Eagles came up short against the Bishop Timon-St. Jude Tigers on Wednesday and fell 5-2. The match marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Caleb Celso put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Celso wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gehrig Locker, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Kaden Phelan also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Wayne and nudges their season record down to 3-2. As for Bishop Timon-St. Jude, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Looking ahead, Wayne will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Chilhowie at 8:30 a.m. As for Bishop Timon-St. Jude, they will challenge Birdlebough at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
