Baseball Recap: McKean Gets the Win

McKean hadn't done well against Odyssey Charter recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Highlanders walked away with a 9-6 win over the Owls. For the Highlanders, this counts as revenge for the 4-1 victory the Owls walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2025.

Christian Bechstein made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, McKean let John Toomey and Jey Oquendo run wild. Toomey went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Oquendo went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. McKean is undefeated when Oquendo posts two or more runs, but 0-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jayden Castillo, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

McKean's win bumped their record up to 4-13. As for Odyssey Charter, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-10.

Coming up, McKean will welcome Delmarva Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Highlanders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Royals have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Odyssey Charter, they are taking a road trip to square off against Christiana at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
