Football Recap: St. Thomas Catholic Piles Up the Points Against Antonian Prep

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Thomas Catholic). They breezed past the Antonian Prep Apaches to the tune of 70-20 on Friday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 25 points or more this season.

Pierce Jacobson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 56 yards and three TDs on only five carries, while also throwing for 196 yards and four touchdowns on only 13 passes. That's the most passing touchdowns he has posted since back in October of 2024. Myles Stewart was another key player, rushing for 158 yards and one score on only 13 carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: St. Thomas Catholic was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 291 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 218 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.

St. Thomas Catholic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jacob Quinlan and Dean Thomas. Another thorn in Antonian Prep's side was Obinna Umeh, who picked up a sack and made eight total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Despite the loss, Antonian Prep still got an impressive performance from Topper Sterling, who rushed for 96 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries.

St. Thomas Catholic pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.3 points over those games. As for Antonian Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Coincidentally, St. Thomas Catholic and Antonian Prep will both be playing Concordia Lutheran the next time they take the field. The Eagles will head out to face the Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Apaches will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on the 31st.
