The Cabrillo Conquistadores will head out to take on the Santa Ynez Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Cabrillo is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Paso Robles: they outscored them in every quarter. Everything went Cabrillo's way against Paso Robles on Friday as Cabrillo made off with a 55-29 victory. Given the Conquistadores' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 207th, while the Bearcats are ranked 449th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sophia Austin had an outrageously good game as she went 9 for 14 en route to 25 points and seven rebounds. That's the most points she has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Jasmyn Hughes, who went 6 of 7 on her way to 14 points in addition to six boards and three steals.
Cabrillo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in nine consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Santa Ynez entered their tilt with Templeton on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They had just enough and edged the Eagles out 43-41. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pirates have posted since January 16, 2024.
Cabrillo better keep an eye on Helina Pecile. She was instrumental in Santa Ynez's win, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 20 rebounds. Pecile continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Molera, who posted four points along with six assists and three steals.
Santa Ynez's victory bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Cabrillo, they are also on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Cabrillo has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Santa Ynez struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.3 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Cabrillo strolled past Santa Ynez when the teams last played on January 10th by a score of 49-30. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cabrillo since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
