Baseball Recap: Monroe Central Comes Up Short

Monroe Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 9-4 to the Harrison Central Huskies, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, with their most recent loss being a 9-4 defeat on Monday.

Monroe Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Griffith, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Griffith has become a key player for the Seminoles: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-14 otherwise. Another was Ryder Muntz, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Monroe Central's loss dropped their record down to 8-15. As for Harrison Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.

Monroe Central will host Catholic Central at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Harrison Central, they will venture away from home to face off against Toronto at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Red Knights' pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so the Huskies' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
