Basketball Recap: Hillside Beats Riverside-Durham for Their Third Straight Win

Hillside waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 42-34 victory over the Riverside-Durham Pirates. The 42-point effort marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Hillside can attribute much of their success to Brendon Watley, who posted 16 points. Another player making a difference was Justin Morgan, who earned eight points.

Riverside-Durham's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Talib Harrell, who went 6 for 8 on his way to 12 points and four steals. Those four steals gave Harrell a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Darryn Johnson, who put up eight points along with eight rebounds and five assists.

Hillside's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-9. As for Riverside-Durham, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hillside will head out to square off against Northern Durham at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Riverside-Durham, they will venture away from home to face off against East Chapel Hill at 8:00 p.m. on Monday.
