Basketball Recap: St. Mary's Falls Short of Archangels Catholic in the Playoffs

St. Mary and Archangels Catholic squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but St. Mary's had to settle for second. They fell to the Archangels Catholic Defenders 44-38. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cardinals of the 40-37 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2022.

Despite the loss, St. Mary's still got an impressive performance from Gracie Williamson, who almost dropped a double-double with 17 points and nine boards. That was a full 44.7% of St. Mary's points, marking the third time in a row Williamson has posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Pyper Ickes, who put up five points in addition to six assists and four steals.

St. Mary's moved to 24-3 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Archangels Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season.
