Baseball Recap: Apache Junction Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Valley Christian, Apache Junction was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the Combs Coyotes by a score of 7-2. For the Prospectors, this counts as revenge for the 7-4 victory the Coyotes walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Dylan Hunsaker made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Apache Junction is 4-1 when Hunsaker posts eight or more strikeouts, but 7-9 otherwise. Hunsaker was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rhett Ruiz, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Jaiden Montalvo was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

Apache Junction kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Apache Junction now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Combs, their loss was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-16-1.

Coming up, Apache Junction will venture away from home to take on Globe at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Prospectors are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. Combs does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
