Softball Recap: Richwood Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Richwood ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Montcalm Generals. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-0 on Monday.

Jenna Williams made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 15 over eight innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 21 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April.

Richwood's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Montcalm, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-14 record this season.

Richwood didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 11-2 defeat against Sherman on the 14th. Montcalm does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
