Andrew Jackson Academy had lost six straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-10 to make it seven. They fell just short of the Jefferson Davis Academy Raiders by a score of 8-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 back in March.
Mariya Hiott spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on ten hits.
At the plate, Carrigan Moore made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Harlo Sease also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
As for Jefferson Davis Academy, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-8 record. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted against Andrew Jackson Academy since April 23, 2021.
On Jefferson Davis Academy's side, Rynn Fickling and Abby Deering made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Fickling struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Deering pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those seven strikeouts gave Fickling a new career-high. At bat, Fickling went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Deering went 2-for-4 with three runs and one double.
In other batting news, Jefferson Davis Academy let Rileigh York and Sydney Owens run wild. York went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Owens went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Andrew Jackson Academy will venture away from home to take on Dorchester Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Jefferson Davis Academy, they will head out to square off against Augusta Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
