Softball Recap: Independence's Run of Nine Straight Victories Now Over

Independence dropped their record down to 12-2 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's nine-game streak of wins. They fell 9-5 to the Riverside Ram. Independence was not able to repeat the success they had when they faced Riverside earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

Independence saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Stringer, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

As for Riverside, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.

On Riverside's side, Kaylee Kadans tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. Kadans has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ashley Bui and Lauren Enright did most of the damage at the plate: Bui went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while Enright went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most hits Enright has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Marissa Skinner, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Independence will square off against Lightridge at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bolts will roll in looking for their 16th straight victory, something Independence surely won't give up without a fight. As for Riverside, they will venture away from home to challenge Stone Bridge at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Ram are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
