2A District 5 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Newcomb's DARRIUS WATCHMAN rumbled for the longest rushing play in 2A District 5 this season in his game against Navajo Pine last week. WATCHMAN ran for 63 yards on the play and finished with 84 on the day as his team fell to the Warriors.
Navajo Pine led the league in scoring this week after putting up 44 points on Newcomb.
Navajo Prep's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Eagles feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Tyler Sorensen has thrown for 1389 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, while Mikaele Mauga has 48 catches for 985 yards. Izaac Eredia leads the league in rushing with 321 yards.
Navajo Prep's Mauga is only 15 receiving yards away from breaking 1,000 receiving yards this season as he enters this week's game against the Gary Thompson's team.
A big matchup in 2A District 5 this week will be when the Sky Hawks take on the Eagles. As it stands, Newcomb is in third, while Navajo Prep is in second.
There should be lots of points scored when the Sky Hawks and Roderick Denetso's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Newcomb comes in having scored 119 this season, while the Eagles have scored 158. The Sky Hawks scored 23 points last week as they fell to Leo Hand's team.
