With a playoff win on the line, St. Augustine rose to the challenge on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Liberty Magnet Patriots. The result was nothing new for the Purple Knights, who have now won 13 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Channing Cornelius Jr. spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, St. Augustine let Kenyon Hughes and Bryce Robinson run wild. Hughes went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Robinson went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Hughes is becoming a predictor of St. Augustine's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-1 (and 10-13 when he doesn't). Isaiah Fields was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

St. Augustine hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.

St. Augustine's win bumped their record up to 18-14. As for Liberty Magnet, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-16 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: St. Augustine beat Liberty Magnet by a score of 17-1 later that day.
