Baseball Recap: West Salem Drops Season-High Score on Viroqua

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Salem). They were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Viroqua Blackhawks on Monday. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 2-1 victory the Blackhawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Luke Baginski was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Terryn Boland, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

West Salem always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

West Salem's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-8. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Viroqua, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-5.

West Salem will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Blackhawks: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
