Softball Recap: Hurricane Drops Highest Score of Season Against George Washington

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hurricane). Everything went their way against the George Washington Patriots on Wednesday as they made off with a 17-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Redskins, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Kate Justice looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 19 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jaden Jones, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 12 contests. Hadley Lawson was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and one double.

Hurricane always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as George Washington only posted an OBP of .333.

The victory (which was Hurricane's third in a row) raised their record to 18-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for George Washington, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-8 record this season.

Hurricane will look to defend their home field on Thursday against East Carter at 6:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Redskins 2, the Raiders 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for George Washington, they will challenge Greenbrier East at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
