Softball Game Preview: Herscher Tigers vs. Yorkville Christian Mustangs

The Herscher Tigers will face off against the Yorkville Christian Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Herscher and four for Yorkville Christian.

Herscher made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Coal City, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Tigers fell just short of the Coalers by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Tigers have suffered since May 4, 2024.

Liv Wilkins was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played.

Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Yorkville Christian's offense. They lost 10-0 to Marquette on Saturday. The match marked the first time this year in which the Mustangs were not able to get on the board.

Yorkville Christian's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Herscher, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-8.

Everything went Herscher's way against Yorkville Christian when the teams last played back in April of 2023, as Herscher made off with an 18-2 win. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
