Basketball Recap: Hitchcock County Takes a Loss

Hitchcock County has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 51-48 heartbreaker at the hands of the Paxton Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Falcons have suffered since January 16, 2024.

Tanner Hebblethwaite was his usual excellent self, going 9 for 16 on his way to 25 points in addition to six rebounds and six steals for Paxton. Hebblethwaite is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Maddex Mcconnell, who posted nine points.

Hitchcock County's loss dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Paxton, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-4.

Hitchcock County will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Maywood/Hayes Center at 7:30 p.m. on February 7th. Paxton also won't see the court for a while: their next game is against Sandhills Valley at 7:00 p.m. on February 7th.
