Basketball Recap: Murphysboro Comes Up Short

Murphysboro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. Their2024 ended with a 54-40 defeat against the Webber Trojans. The Red Devils were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Trojans earlier this season, when they won 44-43.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Webber to victory, but perhaps none more so than Edyn Knight, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 16 boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Knight has scored at least a third of Webber's points. Another player making a difference was Chloe King, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 16 boards.

Murphysboro's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Webber, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.

Murphysboro didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-44 defeat against Lawrenceville on the 28th. As for Webber, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 64-24 loss against Newton on the 27th.
