Dallas County is 9-1 against Isabella since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Dallas County Hornets will welcome the Isabella Mustangs at 4:00 p.m.
Last Monday, Dallas County came up short against Verbena and fell 11-7. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Crystan McCune was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing Four bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Joshua Davis was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Isabella waltzed into their match on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Cougars as they made off with a 14-1 victory.
Levi Wilkins and Austin Porter made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Wilkins pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Porter pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance gave Wilkins a new career-low in hits. At bat, Wilkins scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5, while Porter scored two runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Porter a new career-high in doubles (two).
In other batting news, Eli Boatwright and Garrett Price did most of the damage at the plate: Boatwright scored two runs while going 3-for-5, while Price scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Boatwright a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Josh Thomas, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Isabella was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .367 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Isabella's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Dallas County, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dallas County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .514. However, it's not like Isabella struggles in that department as they've averaged .467. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
