Softball Recap: West Craven Drops Highest Score of Season Against Greene Central

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Craven). They never let the Greene Central Rams get on the board and left with a 19-0 victory on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won nine in a row.

Riley Dixon made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, West Craven got a massive performance out of Makayla Gibson, who scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those two runs gave Gibson a new career-high. Izabella Sutton was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

West Craven kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive matchups.

West Craven's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-10. As for Greene Central, they dropped their record down to 0-17 with the defeat, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Greene Central will head out to face off against Southside at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rams' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Seahawks have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. West Craven will be paying especially close attention to Greene Central's game: after Greene Central faces off against Southside, they'll take on West Craven again at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
