Basketball Recap: Briarwood Academy Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

Briarwood Academy had won four straight home games and Kelleyanne Mooney did her part to make it five on Saturday. The Briarwood Academy Buccaneers enjoyed a cozy 53-35 victory over the John Hancock Academy Rebels thanks in part to Mooney, who went 7 for 17 en route to 26 points along with seven boards and five steals. She has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times she's played.

The team also got some help courtesy of Lauryn Simpson, who posted seven points and three steals. That's the most points she has posted since back in January of 2024.

Briarwood Academy has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for John Hancock Academy, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Briarwood Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-26 win against Augusta Prep Day on the 20th. John Hancock Academy has also already played their next matchup (against Westminster Christian Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
