The Lewis Cass Kings are taking a road trip to take on the Manchester Squires at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Manchester took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Lewis Cass, who comes in off a win.
Lewis Cass will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Northfield on Monday. The Kings' pitcher stepped up to hand the Norsemen a 10-0 shutout. The Kings not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since May 6, 2024 (when they won 17-6).

Ruth (Amma) Fitzhugh made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Kaitlyn Benner was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Hannah Penn also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Lewis Cass always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Manchester fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Whitko on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 2-1. The Squires haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Molly Schannep spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits.
On the hitting side, Manchester saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Izzy Renz, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases.
Lewis Cass' victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-9. As for Manchester, they now have a losing record of 10-11.
Manchester's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Lewis Cass has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Manchester, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 strikeouts. Will Lewis Cass keep running through batters, or will the Squires buck the trend?
Lewis Cass couldn't quite get it done against Manchester in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-3. Can the Kings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
