South Florence has gone a perfect 10-0 against Wilson recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The South Florence Bruins will square off against the Wilson Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
South Florence had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Lakewood on Monday. South Florence never let Lakewood get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for the Bruins this season.
Payton Perry made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, Page White was a standout: she scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Blakely Blue was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.
South Florence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Wilson, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They blew past Crestwood 17-7 on Friday.
Wilson let Zoey Miller and Lauren Sehnke run wild. Miller went a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI, while Sehnke went 3-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. The dominant performance gave Miller a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Meyonna McDaniel, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
South Florence is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. The victory got Wilson back to even at 2-2.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Florence hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Wilson struggles in that department as they've averaged .433. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went South Florence's way against Wilson in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as South Florence made off with a 14-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Florence since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
