Recap: West Laurens Raiders vs. East Laurens Falcons
The West Laurens Raiders won the last time they faced the East Laurens Falcons, and things went their way on Saturday too. West Laurens secured a 43-37 W over East Laurens. The win was all the more spectacular given West Laurens' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 305th, while East Laurens is ranked 146th).
West Laurens found their leader in underclassman Brookyln Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Tiara Johnson, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
East Laurens lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being McKayela Tanner, who scored ten points along with five assists and four steals. Tanner hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Brenda Tanner was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
The win makes it two in a row for West Laurens and bumps their season record up to 7-9. As for East Laurens, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Laurens and Spalding will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Spalding is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50.1 points per game. As for East Laurens, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Bleckley County at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th.
