The University Christian Christians will face off against the Riverside Generals at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in University Christian's favor as the squad sits on 11 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Riverside has been banged up by 16 consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.
University Christian was handed a 15-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over Fleming Island. The victory was some much needed relief for the Christians as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Dixie Tessier made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Tessier wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Piper Tessier, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Sinai Tunsill was another, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Riverside lost 25-10 to Englewood on Wednesday.
A Miller made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Camiyah Townsend, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Riverside's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for University Christian, their win bumped their record up to 12-3.
Riverside's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: University Christian has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Riverside, though, as they've been averaging 10.3 hits. Given University Christian's sizable advantage in that area, the Generals will need to find a way to close that gap.
University Christian took their victory against Riverside in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 23-0 score. Do the Christians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Generals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
