Baseball Recap: Rolling Meadows Mustangs vs. Hersey Huskies
Rolling Meadows extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 16-7 in the process. They came up short against the Hersey Huskies, falling 6-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-4 on Monday.
As for Hersey, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3-1 record this season. Considering they have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
For Hersey's part, not much got past Keegan Luxem, who gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks to keep Rolling Meadows off the board. Luxem has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Mike Sokan was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since April 4th. Charlie Arvanitis was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rolling Meadows will square off against Fremd at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings will roll in looking for their 14th straight win, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hersey, they will face off against Barrington at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Fillies/Broncos will aim to continue their five-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
