Baseball Recap: Sterling Tigers vs. Yuma Outlaws
Sterling put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Yuma Outlaws a 13-0 shutout. The victory was familiar territory for Sterling who now have three in a row.
Memphis Dempcy and Trenton Allen made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Dempcy didn't allow a single earned run and only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Allen tossed an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Dempcy scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Allen scored a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Sterling let Robbie Carrasco and Dayten DiOrio loose on the outfield. Carrasco scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while DiOrio scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. DiOrio is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now stolen at least one in the last four games he's played. Sterling's win bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Yuma, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sterling will challenge Platte Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Sterling knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with flashy run totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Platte Valley likes a good challenge. As for Yuma, they will head out on the road to face off against Akron at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
