Preview: Charleston Math & Science Riptide vs. St. John's Islanders
The Charleston Math & Science Riptide will head out on the road to take on the St. John's Islanders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.
Charleston Math & Science lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on Wednesday was a bit more commanding. Their tough 60-36 defeat to Military Magnet Academy might stick with them for a while. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Charleston Math & Science has suffered since November 17, 2023.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Zion King, who scored eight points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Tyler Simmons, who scored nine points.
Charleston Math & Science struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Military Magnet Academy racked up 13 assists.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 60-28, which was the final score in St. John's tilt against Burke on Wednesday. St. John's has not had much luck with Burke recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Charleston Math & Science dropped their record down to 9-10 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for St. John's, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season.
Charleston Math & Science came up short against St. John's in their previous matchup on January 10th, falling 45-38. Can Charleston Math & Science avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
