Football Game Preview: Burges Mustangs vs. Horizon Scorpions

The Burges Mustangs will head out to take on the Horizon Scorpions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Burges has given up an average of 25.8 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, Burges lost to Hanks at home by a 35-21 margin. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Nezahul Cisneros and Austin Deucher. Deucher had a great game and gained 238 total yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, Cisneros was balling out in the loss, rushing for 179 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 9.0 yards per carry.

Meanwhile, Horizon played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Andress, falling 58-6. While losing is never fun, the Scorpions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1033rd, while the Eagles are ranked 363rd).

Burges' loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Horizon, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Burges beat Horizon 44-35 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
